| 10,00,000 | Ten lakh | One million |
| 1,00,00,000 | One crore | Ten million |
| 1,00,00,00,000 | One hundred crore | One billion |
Writing amounts on a cheque
Write the amount in words starting close to the left edge and end with “only”, for example “Rupees Twelve Thousand Five Hundred Only”. This prevents anyone from adding words afterwards. The rupees format above follows this convention.
