How to use the Compress Image
- Choose one or more images.
- Adjust the quality slider and the optional maximum width.
- Download each compressed image, or download them all.
How image compression works
The tool re-encodes your image as JPEG or WebP at the quality you choose. Lower quality removes fine detail the eye barely notices, often cutting file size by 50–80%. Reducing very large dimensions (for example a 4000 px photo to 1600 px) saves even more.
Why compress images?
- Meet upload limits on job portals, government forms and email.
- Make websites load faster, which also helps SEO.
- Save storage space on your phone or cloud drive.
Frequently asked questions
What quality should I choose?
70–80% is a good balance for photos. Go lower for thumbnails, higher if the image will be printed.
What happens to transparent PNGs?
JPEG does not support transparency, so transparent areas become white. Choose WebP output to keep transparency.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Compression happens in your browser using the Canvas API.
